1977-2010
The roots of SRSIC trace all the way back to 1977 when Gerry Gallicchio started a singles group at her local church. The ministry steadily grew to the point that, in 1989, Singles Reaching Singles In Christ was incorporated as an independent ministry. In 2002, SRSIC grew another leap, going international at the request of the Bahamian government, and sponsored a singles weekend in Freeport, Grand Bahamas.
For over thirty years, the annual retreat has been a perennial hit and one of the most cherished events. Originally held at Lakewood Retreat in Brooksville, the retreat is now held in larger facilities of the Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center. Every year, singles from all over the Southeast U.S. and as far away as New York cast aside denominational differences and church boundaries to unite under the banner of Jesus Christ and experience a fresh communion with Him.
Gerry's burden for single adults arose from her own experience as a single mom raising two children. Her focus is, and has always been, that what singles need is the message that Christ is the answer to broken lives. Her persistent goal is to see single adults complete in Christ, fulfilling their potential and reaching out to others in need.
Over the years, Gerry has devoted countless hours to ministry, often at significant personal sacrifice, providing vision, direction, comfort, and encouragement. Her home has always been open for singles who wanted to talk, visit, or just "chill out." Hospitality is one of Gerry's strengths, and no one visits without being offered something to eat. Eating together is a great relationship builder, and many prayers and long discussions have taken place around Gerry's table. This loving and caring attitude have earned Gerry the well-deserved nickname of "Mama G."
As an added blessing, Heritage Publication listed Gerry in the 2007 Heritage Report of "Who's Who."
In 2001, God brought John Whitmire to the ministry, giving him a passion for single adults akin to Gerry's. John's skills and gifts were a great asset that filled a growing need in the organization. Gerry expects to one day hand over her mantle to John to continue the ministry of SRSIC.
Finances
Singles Reaching Singles in Christ, Inc. is a registered non-profit organization. Our goal is is not to make money, but to minister to singles. Those who labor within the ministry do it as a labor of love, but there are still other operating expenses present throughout the year. Our entire income is raised through registrations, rallies, and individuals who give to this ministry. Your tax-deductible gift is welcome and greatly appreciated.
